About Us

Dr. Finkel, a native of Manhattan, New York, graduated summa cum laude from the City College of New York’s Sophie Davis Biomedical Program.  He attended Mt. Sinai Medical School and graduated with highest honors in the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Society.  He completed a residency in Anatomic Pathology at the Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York and is board certified.  Following this, he completed a Dermatopathology Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania and a Dermatology residency at the University of Michigan.  He is triple board-certified.  

Dr. Finkel believes strongly in continuing medical education and, in 2009, re-certified in Dermatology by taking and passing a comprehensive examination on a broad range of topics.  This is done every 10 years after original Board Certification and Dr. Finkel has done this twice in his 20 years of practice here.

He practiced as Chief of Clinical Dermatology at Kaiser-Oakland Hospital in California for 9 years where he also had a dermatopathology consultation practice.  In 2000, he moved to Warrenton, Virginia with his wife and their 3 children,  where he has since been in private practice.  He enjoys and practices all aspects of dermatology including surgical, pediatric, medical and cosmetic dermatology.  

Dr. Finkel also believes in serving the community and has supported a multitude of community organizations including the Fauquier Free Clinic, Fauquier Chamber of Commerce, First Night of Warrenton, Fauquier SPCA, Friends of the Fauquier Library, Fauquier High School Falcon Booster Club, High School's After Prom Celebrations, Liberty High School Athletic Booster, Kettle Run High School, Fauquier Hospital Foundation, The American Legion, Piedmont Symphony Orchestra, The Boys and Girls Club of Fauquier County, VERDUN Adventure Bound, The American Cancer Society, Fauquier Community Theater, Allegro Community School of the Arts, Middleburg Humane Foundation, Warrenton Horse Show, Warrenton Pony Show and the Piedmont Chapter of Girls On The Run.    He also enjoys singing and is an active member of the Blue Ridge Barbershoppers as well as singing tenor in his quartet, MINT CONDITION.  Recently, he has been performing as an actor with Fauquier Community Theater, Rappahannock Community Theater, Allegro Community Players and the Windmore Foundation for the Arts.

He is a member of The American Academy of Dermatology, American Society of Dermatopathology, Virginia Dermatological Society,  National Rosacea Society, American Society for Photodynamic Therapy and the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology and Aesthetic Surgery.  He has given numerous dermatology lectures and has been published in a number of professional journals and is currently very active in online dermatology educational forums.
